At the R4 event on Friday night (fashion as the fourth "R" after Reduce, Re-use and Recycle), guests enjoyed cocktails and canapes by the water at Ontario Place while mingling with Evan Biddell in the VIP lounge. Afterward, they were treated to an eco-friendly runway show featuring four looks from each of the featured designers: Aime, Carrie, Thieves, and Rachel Chan.
For the final look of each short showcase, designers rose to the challenge of creating a look based on recycled materials like pop cans, garbage bags and paper, with varying results.
Fashion Takes Action founder, Kelly Drennan, introduced the show plus an exclusive screening of a documentary by Natalie Dodd which examined the fashion industry's influence on the environment and vice versa.
R4 was presented by STEP, the Sustainable Technology and Education Project, at the University of Waterloo.
